2000-2014

We introduced our revolutionary new generation petrol, PRIMAX in 2000. It was a technological breakthrough, in line with the company’s efforts to continuously add value to our products and services.

2000-2014

In 2001, an integrated chemical complex of global scale was opened in Gebeng, Kuantan, encompassing 150 hectares of 12 plants producing acrylic monomers, oxo products and butanediol. The combined capacity of the plants is at more than 1 million tonnes per year.

2000-2014

The PETRONAS LNG complex in Bintulu, Sarawak, hosts three LNG plants and is the world’s largest producer of LNG at a single location.

2000-2014

We launched the book “A Vision Realised – The Transformation of a National Oil Corporation” in June 2001. Written by Datuk Dr Paddy Bowie, the book documents PETRONAS’ 25 years of impressive development.

2000-2014

We marked a new milestone in 2002 with Malaysia’s first deepwater oil discovery at the Kikeh field, offshore Sabah. Kikeh’s Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) system is also Malaysia’s first, and was constructed at over 7.2 million man-hours with Zero Loss Time Incidents.

2000-2014

The PETRONAS Petroleum Industry Complex (PPIC) was opened in 2002. With 41 installations and support plants, it is an integrated world-class complex housing a number of world-scale petroleum-based manufacturing facilities.

2000-2014

The Sabah-Sarawak Integrated Oil & Gas Project (SSIOGP) sanctioned in 2005 is another a large-scale integrated project currently undertaken by PETRONAS to harness the oil and gas resources in the offshore areas of Sabah. Comprising three offshore fields, two onshore projects, two downstream projects and a training centre, the project is set to transform the landscape of Sabah’s oil and gas industry and provide vast opportunities to Sabahans.

2000-2014

We grew our unconventional business with an investment in Gladstone LNG, Australia, in 2010, and acquisition of Progress Energy in Canada in 2012. Both projects are expected to strengthen our unconventional strategy whilst cementing our position as a major global LNG player.

2000-2014

In 2011, we announced our new project, the Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development (RAPID), producing differentiated and highly-specialised chemicals. It is greater in scale and scope compared to Kertih, Melaka, and Gebeng complexes combined.

2000-2014

We embarked on Risk Service Contracts (RSC) to encourage the development of marginal fields with first RSC signed in January 2011 for Berantai.

2000-2014

After 14 months of hard work, the Gumusut Kakap field, Malaysia’s second deepwater field, achieved its first oil production with Zero Lost Time Injury on 18 November 2012.

2000-2014

To spearhead Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) efforts, we initiated TAPIS EOR in Malaysia, which became Southeast Asia’s first and largest EOR project. TAPIS EOR will help augment our reserves and improve recovery for at least 20-30 years.

2000-2014

In 2012, we completed Malaysia’s first LNG re-gasification terminal in Sungai Udang, Melaka, an engineering achievement made possible by the dedication and commitment of our staff.

2000-2014

In 2012, we embarked upon the creation and construction of one of our most ambitious projects, slated to be the first in the world – PETRONAS Floating LNG 1 and 2.

2000-2014

We made our first foray into the Middle East and pulled through a grueling operating environment to deliver oil, while also contributing to the well-being of the communities in the area. The work paid off as we celebrated first oil from the Garraf and Majnoon fields in 2013, and Badra in 2014.

2000-2014

We signed our 100th active Production Sharing Contract (PSC) in December 2013, the most number of active PSCs we have ever had since the PSC system was introduced.

2000-2014

Adapting to a changing operating landscape, we incorporated Vestigo in 2013 as a small and marginal field specialist to ensure we tap into the full potential of our Malaysian basins.

2000-2014

A series of podium wins by our MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS F1 team in the 2014 race not only celebrated the accomplishments by our technology team but helped us produce better fuel. Improvements in our racing fuel are applied to fuel that consumers on the road can enjoy, giving them better fuel efficiency, cost savings and cleaner engines.
