In reaching out to society, our commitment to serve disadvantaged groups and communities around the world goes the extra mile with the proactive involvement of our employees at the grassroots level as volunteers. Our employees have involved themselves in both formal community projects as well as informal community outreach activities, dedicating their time and energy to help alleviate the needs of the disadvantaged communities in Malaysia and abroad.
Group-wide, we have put in place various programmes to encourage and support our employees in their voluntary efforts to connect with the communities that need our help the most. Annual programmes like Sentuhan Kasih and Jalinan Insan allow our employees to contribute directly to homes for disadvantaged children and orphans in the areas of our operations. The Sentuhan Kasih programme is an effort to reach out to less privileged children during the festive seasons.
Besides financial assistance, these children also enjoy a day out with their adoptive sisters and brothers. Jalinan Insan was introduced to provide a platform for PETRONAS employees to be involved in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of tsunami-hit Aceh. Since its introduction, PETRONAS staff members have also sponsored children from SOS Children's Village Bawana, Delhi. Contributions through this programme are channeled towards the children's education fund.
The PETRONAS Volunteer Opportunity Programme collaborates with selected NGOs and relevant parties to scout for volunteer opportunities and provide necessary training, direction and support to develop skills useful in programmes such as disaster rehabilitation and education outreach activities.
