The PETRONAS LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak comprises three LNG plants owned and operated by PETRONAS’ joint venture companies - Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd, MLNG Dua Sdn Bhd and MLNG Tiga Sdn Bhd respectively. An integrated world-class LNG production complex spread over 276 hectares of land, it receives its gas supply from upstream facilities offshore Sarawak. With a total of eight production trains and a combined capacity of 24 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), the complex is one of the world's largest LNG production facilities at a single location.
The MLNG Group of Companies leverages on the synergies provided by PETRONAS’ shipping subsidiary MISC Berhad, the world’s largest single owner-operator of LNG carriers for the transportation of its LNG output to the overseas customers.
Since the first LNG cargo was delivered to Japan in 1983, we have concluded long-term contracts with customers in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, supplying a significant share of their domestic needs.
In 2007, we achieved a major breakthrough when we secured a long-term contract with Shanghai LNG Company Ltd, paving the way for our foray into the huge and rapidly-growing Chinese LNG market.
Besides marketing LNG on long-term contracts, we are also involved in LNG trading in the spot market, chartering of LNG ships and supplying LNG through our trading company Asean LNG Trading Co. Ltd. (ALTCO). ALTCO has delivered spot and swap LNG cargoes to customers in Belgium, India, South Korea, Spain, Turkey and the USA.
