Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
As a responsible corporate citizen, PETRONAS is committed to responsible HSE management practices in every aspect of our operations. We have implemented a comprehensive HSE Management System group-wide to enable us to manage HSE risks to as low as reasonably practicable, emphasising our commitment to preventing injuries, eliminating occupational illnesses and damage to property and the environment . This system is continuously strengthened and updated, based on our HSE experiences, best practices and lessons learnt.

We regularly carry out checks and improvement activities, as well as conduct emergency exercises at all our operating units to improve the effectiveness of our Emergency Response Plans.

This constant effort has resulted in further reduction of Group Lost Time Injury Frequency per million man-hours to 0.35 in 2008 as compared with 0.48 the previous year.

Group Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory
This inventory consolidates all sources of GHG emissions in our operations and tracks emission levels. Based on data from this inventory, we are able to set targets for emission reductions, leveraging on appropriate Clean Development Mechanisms under the Kyoto Protocol.
