Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation

Malaysia's Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation (CARIF) was established in 2002 as a non-profit research organisation dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer-linked diseases in the country and the Asian region. While some cancers are universal, many are region-specific due to special genetic and lifestyle factors, hence requiring specialised and relevant research.

It has been estimated that, by 2020, more than two-thirds of cancer related deaths will occur in developing countries, making the need for facilities like CARIF even more urgent.

Financial contributions from PETRONAS have helped CARIF establish its basic molecular biology laboratory and tissue culture facilities. The CARIF facility is located at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre in the state of Selangor.
